Attraction Introduction

The London Eye, located on the South Bank of the River Thames, is one of London’s most recognisable modern landmarks. Officially opened in 2000 and standing around 135 metres tall, it is one of the world’s largest cantilevered observation wheels, offering panoramic views of central London from its glass capsules.

A full rotation takes around 30 minutes. From the top, you can enjoy views of landmarks such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the River Thames and Buckingham Palace. On a clear day, visibility can extend well beyond central London.

Daytime visits offer clear views of the city’s architecture and the Thames, while the early evening is a good time to enjoy the changing light as London begins to illuminate. For first-time visitors, the London Eye offers a relaxed way to see the city from above and get a better sense of London’s layout.

How to Get There

Underground: Waterloo Station is the nearest station and is served by the Jubilee, Northern, Bakerloo and Waterloo & City lines. It is around a 5-minute walk from the London Eye. Westminster Station is also within walking distance.
Train: London Waterloo Station is the nearest railway station, around a 5-minute walk away.
Bus: Routes 11, 12, 76, 77, 148, 159 and 381 serve the County Hall / Westminster Bridge area, with stops a short walk from the London Eye.
Walking: The London Eye is easily reached on foot from Westminster by crossing Westminster Bridge.

Travel Tips

A full rotation on the London Eye takes around 30 minutes. During peak seasons, weekends and school holidays, waiting times may be longer, so booking in advance is recommended.

The time shown on your ticket usually refers to when you join the queue rather than your actual boarding time. During busy periods, you may need to wait up to around 45 minutes.
