Attraction Introduction

The Château de Amboise, situated on a hill overlooking the Loire River, was one of the most important early residences of the French royal family. The castle's architecture blends medieval defensive structures with Renaissance elements, offering panoramic views of the Loire and the town's rooftops. It is also the burial place of Leonardo da Vinci, whose tombstone is preserved in the château's Saint-Hubert chapel. While not as grand as Chambord in scale, its excellent location and expansive views make it one of the Loire Valley's most historically and culturally significant castles.

How to Get There

You can take a train from Paris Montparnasse or Tours to Amboise station, and it's about a 20-minute walk from there. Driving via the A10 is more convenient, and there is parking available around the castle. Entering the castle requires walking up a ramp.

Travel Tips

The castle is situated on high ground, and some areas require walking uphill. It gets quite crowded during peak season. The views are best on a clear day.
