Attraction Introduction

Trakai Castle, located on an island in Lake Galva, was built in 1409. It is the only surviving ancient castle in Lithuania and the only one on water in the Baltic region. Constructed of orange-red brick and stone, the castle is surrounded by conical-topped watchtowers in the style of medieval knights, and is enclosed by a moat. The castle, standing on the water at sunset, presents a dreamlike beauty. This castle was once the political center of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, witnessing the country's glorious history.

How to Get There

It's about a 30-minute drive from Vilnius; alternatively, you can take a train or bus to Trakai and then walk about 20 minutes to the castle.
