Built on the site of a former castle, it bears the name "Castle," but it is actually a luxurious estate owned by the Howard family. Its history dates back to the early 18th century, with a harmonious blend of different architectural styles, making Howard Castle a jewel of North York. The repeated Greek carvings and elegant windowsills, the meticulously maintained gardens, the graceful Atlantis Fountain, and the romantic rose garden evoke images of the English aristocratic life depicted by Jane Austen. It has also been a filming location for numerous movies, including Garfield and the famous Harry Potter series. The after-party for Zhou's 2015 wedding was held here, undoubtedly drawn by the beauty of this estate.*Limited season from March to October each year

How to Get There

Howard Castle is located in the North Yorkshire countryside, about 30 kilometers from York city centre. The most recommended way to get there is by chartered car or self-drive. From York, it takes about 40–45 minutes to drive to the castle entrance, where there is paid parking available, offering flexibility and saving time. Public transport is relatively inconvenient, usually requiring a train or bus ride to a nearby town followed by a taxi, which is time-consuming and has limited availability. Therefore, choosing a private car is more suitable for combining Howard Castle with a visit to York or surrounding attractions.
