Attraction Introduction

The Temple of Philae is one of the three best-preserved ancient Egyptian Ptolemaic temples, built for Isis, the goddess of fertility and procreation in ancient Egyptian mythology. In the 1960s, UNESCO launched a rescue operation, completely dismantling the temple and relocating it to the nearby Island of Agilika, maintaining its original orientation. It is still called the Temple of Philae. By 1979, the Temple of Philae, as part of the "Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae" project, was inscribed on the World Heritage List, making it one of Egypt's first World Heritage Sites, alongside the pyramids.

Travel Tips

• To reach Philae Temple, a boat ride is required. Boat tickets are typically purchased at the Aswan pier. It's advisable to negotiate prices or book in advance.

• The temple is well-lit, and the best time for photography is in the morning. It's recommended to avoid the strong midday sun.

• The temple offers a nocturnal Sound & Light Show. It's recommended to book in advance to experience the spectacular sight of the temple illuminated in colorful lights.

• It's recommended to combine this visit with other tours, such as the Aswan driver tour or the Kubishe Finger tour, to fully experience the historical and natural beauty of Upper Egypt.
