Attraction Introduction

Turnagain Arm, south of Anchorage, is a long, narrow branch of Cook Inlet. With its shimmering blue glaciers complementing the rolling Chugach Mountains, it feels like a paradise on Earth. Driving along this route, the glaciers, snow-capped mountains, bay, and mountain ranges intertwine to form a magnificent panorama, making it one of Alaska's most unmissable scenic drives.

Travel Tips

• Beluga Point is the most worthwhile photo stop along the way. On a clear day, you can overlook the entire bay and mountains, and if you're lucky, you might even spot beluga whales.

• At Alyeska Ski Resort, you can take a scenic gondola to the summit for panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains.

• Seward Highway, connecting Anchorage and Turnagain Arm, is one of America's 16 most beautiful highways, with incredibly grand scenery along the route.

• Turnagain Arm has one of the largest tidal ranges in the world; at low tide, vast mudflats and sandbars are exposed.
