Fontainebleau Palace is one of the oldest royal palaces in France and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It once served as a residence for French monarchs and Napoleon, and is renowned for its grand architecture, exquisite interior decoration, and expansive gardens. It is often referred to as “the palace that was truly lived in.”

How to Get There

Take a train from Paris Gare de Lyon to Fontainebleau-Avon (approx. 40 minutes), then transfer to a bus or walk for about 15 minutes to reach your destination.

Opening Hours:

  • Open daily, except Tuesdays, January 1st, May 1st, and December 25th.
  • October to March: 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM (last admission 4:15 PM)
  • April to September: 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM (last admission 5:15 PM)

Important Notes:

  • Do not touch exhibits inside the palace; photography is prohibited in some areas.
  • Advance ticket purchase is recommended, as it can be crowded during peak season.
  • The gardens are extensive; comfortable shoes are recommended.
  • Opening hours for some exhibition halls may vary; please refer to on-site information.
