Attraction Introduction
Rundal Palace is the largest and most magnificent palace in the Baltic region, often referred to as "Little Versailles" or "Little Winter Palace." This palace is another exquisite work by Bartolomeo Rastrelli, the architect of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, and was built as a summer palace for the Grand Duke of Courland. The palace is a prime example of Latvian Baroque and Rococo architecture, truly a jewel of the region. The interior is lavishly decorated, boasting 138 rooms, including breathtaking halls such as the Golden Hall and the White Hall, surrounded by meticulously designed French gardens.

Located about 80 kilometers south of Riga; about a 1.5-hour drive from Riga; day tours departing from Riga are also available.

Historical backgroundConstruction of Rundal Palace began in 1736, commissioned by Duke Ernst Johann von Biron of Courland. The palace has a history marked by various changes, having served as a school and granary. After extensive restoration in the 20th century, it has regained its former glory and become one of Latvia's most important cultural heritage sites and tourist attractions.
