The lakes' waters possess a unique hue, and the calcium deposits on the surface of the trees beneath them have formed a bronze-like substance, creating a rare underwater spectacle of jade trees. Surrounded by lush meadows, rushing streams and waterfalls, and crystal-clear lakes, the lakes resemble a paradise on earth. Attractions
Budapest
Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is also the country's major political, commercial, transportation, and economic center, as well as its largest city. A renowned ancient European city, it lies in the north-central part of the country, nestled on both sides of the middle reaches of the Danube River. Originally two cities separated by a distance, it was later expanded over several centuries and formed in 1873 by the merger of Buda and Gubuda, located on the right (west) bank of the Danube, and Pest, on the left (east) bank. Previously, Budapest itself did not exist; it was generally referred to as Pest-Buda.
Plitvice Lakes National Park
Located in central Croatia, just 10 km from the border with Bihać in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the site's core protected area has been expanded to 192 km². The Korana River flows through a limestone landscape, where centuries of erosion and sedimentation have formed numerous travertine embankments. The development of these natural embankments has given rise to a series of lakes, caves, and waterfalls, creating a magnificent natural landscape. This remarkable geological process continues today. The park's forests are home to wild bears, wolves, and numerous rare bird species.
Split
Split, a port city in southern Croatia located on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, is the largest seaport in Dalmatia and a renowned historical city, resort, and tourist destination. Split's architecture developed around the Roman Emperor Diocletian's summer residence. In 1979, Diocletian's Palace, the heart of Split's old town, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Split boasts numerous museums and art galleries housing valuable collections.
Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik, a port city in southeastern Croatia, lies on a limestone peninsula on the southern Dalmatian coast. With its stunning scenery and pleasant climate, it is one of Croatia's most famous tourist destinations and a renowned health resort. Dubrovnik boasts numerous historical sites, including buildings in Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. Its numerous islands, lush forests, clear waters, abundant sunshine, and captivating coastal scenery make it a sought-after destination for tourists. George Bernard Shaw once said, "If you want to see what paradise is like, go to Dubrovnik!"
Stone Town Počitelj
Pocitelj, also known as the Stone City, is a small Ottoman town built in the Middle Ages. Its well-preserved defensive tower serves as the town's commanding heights. Climbing the tower offers a panoramic view, where the town blends seamlessly into its surroundings. Autumn is pomegranate season, and pomegranate trees abound throughout the town. The vibrant red fruits are a truly stunning sight, making pomegranate juice a local specialty.
Sarajevo
Sarajevo is the capital, economic, and cultural center of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After World War II, it served as the capital of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Located near the upper reaches of the Bosna River, a tributary of the Sava River in central Yugoslavia, Sarajevo is a picturesque ancient city surrounded by mountains. Its population is 375,000, including 449,000 in the suburbs (as of 1981). Founded in 1263, Sarajevo was the site of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir apparent of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, by Serbian nationalists on June 28, 1914, sparking World War I. It is a major land transportation hub. Industries include power equipment, automobile manufacturing, metalworking, chemicals, textiles, ceramics, and food processing.
The old city center is famous for its oriental copper and silver handicrafts. It houses a university, a science academy, and a museum. The city center still retains old buildings from the Ottoman era. On the outskirts of the city are the Pale and Ilidža resorts.
