Itinerary Information
Departing promptly from London Victoria Station at 9:00 AM for Cambridge, the University of Cambridge, founded in 1209, is the second oldest university in the English-speaking world. Learn about Cambridge's history and origins, ironically founded by a group of rebellious scholars who left Oxford. Cambridge is a distinctive historic city, renowned for its unique and exquisite architecture and culture. A guided walking tour will allow you to appreciate some of Cambridge's most captivating sights.
King's College, situated on the banks of the River Cam, is a stunning example of medieval Gothic architecture. Founded by Henry VI in 1441, its fan-shaped dome is the largest in the world. You can follow in the footsteps of famous alumni, including World War II codebreaking genius Alan Turing, Oliver Cromwell, and Charles Darwin. Construction of the college chapel began in 1446 and took nearly 70 years to complete, resulting in a magnificent masterpiece. The chapel is home to a world-renowned choir, whose performances are broadcast to millions of listeners worldwide every Christmas Eve.
Next, we'll travel to another ancient university city – Oxford. Known as the "City of Dream Spires," this city will embark on a rewarding walking tour with our expert guide. Delve into Oxford's rich history, home to the oldest university in the English-speaking world, its origins dating back to the 11th century – the world-renowned University of Oxford. Visit Christ Church College, one of the university's most respected colleges. Founded by Henry VIII in 1532, it is also the smallest chapel in England. Its captivating architecture has been featured in films such as *Harry Potter* and *The Golden Compass*, inspiring numerous replicas worldwide and leaving an indelible mark on film history.
Arrive at London Victoria Station around 19:00.
Oxford
The town is quaint and tranquil, yet permeated with a rich academic atmosphere; Oxford University is arguably the main reason people visit this city. This world-renowned institution has nurtured countless outstanding talents for the world over the past 800 years. Furthermore, it is the origin story of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Although small, Oxford is equally fascinating. In this city, you can stroll among its many colleges and immerse yourself in its academic culture.
Cambridge
Xu Zhimo's poem "Saying Goodbye to Cambridge Again" is quite famous in Chinese communities. Cambridge is the oldest university town in England, a place that has produced many famous figures throughout history. Scientists like Newton, poets like Byron, and writers like Dickinson, as well as celebrities like Tom Hiddleston and Eddie Redmayne, all graduated from Cambridge University. A visit to Cambridge might just lead you to bump into a celebrity revisiting the area, or witness an academic luminary giving a lecture. Pass by Trinity College to see Newton's apple tree, Queen's College to view the exterior of the Mathematical Bridge, King's College to find the inscription on Xu Zhimo's poetry collection, and St. John's College to see the Bridge of Sighs. Alternatively, you can take a boat trip on the River Cam and experience firsthand the passion and artistic flair of Cambridge's academic elites. The "Time Eater Clock" serves as a reminder of the fleeting nature of time and the importance of cherishing it.
