Visit Edinburgh Castle and explore this imposing fortress towering over Scotland's capital. Built in the 12th century, Edinburgh Castle holds a crucial place in Scottish history, featuring royal stories, sieges, and battles. Discover it for yourself! Afterward, you'll have free time to explore this magnificent fortress and its various parts. Free guided tours depart from various locations throughout the day.

Visit the magnificent Great Hall, built by James IV in 1511, and admire its distinctive timber-beamed roof. The magnificent rooms of the Royal Palace, once home to the Scottish royal family, allow you to walk through these exquisite rooms and imagine the people who inhabited this place centuries ago. Learn about the Scottish monarchs who once lingered here, including St. Margaret and Mary, Queen of Scots.

Other highlights at Edinburgh Castle include the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny, where Scottish kings have been crowned for centuries, and St. Margaret's Chapel, Edinburgh's oldest surviving building! You can also visit the National War Museum and Regimental Museum, exploring 400 years of Scottish war history and the country's oldest military unit.

    Closing time: 5:00 pm (last admission 4:00 pm)

Daily gun salute <br data-end="568" data-start="565">Fired at 1pm every day (except Sunday, Good Friday and Christmas Day).

Booking Policy


  • Your e-ticket will be sent by email 48-72 hours before your travel date.

  • If your selected timeslot is full, we will try to reschedule your entry within one hour before or after your selected timeslot. Please refer to the actual time shown on your voucher for admission.

  • The venue does not provide storage for strollers or buggies, and backpacks/suitcases with a capacity exceeding 30L are not allowed into the venue.

  • Visitors are advised to allow at least 2 hours to visit the castle's main attractions.
  • Last admission is 1 hour before closing.

  • Free guided tours are on a first-come, first-served basis. Please inquire with staff about the next guided tour time and meeting point.
