Itinerary

Specific itinerary

D1 London ‣ Stratford-upon-Avon ‣ Shrewsbury or Chester

Leaving London, we travel to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. As the location of the Bard's birthplace, schoolroom and resting place, you will have time to explore this charming town and enjoy lunch at one of its many restaurants and riverside pubs.

You will then travel to the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, the world's first bridge made entirely of iron. Built during the Industrial Revolution, explore how it was put together, or simply admire the view from above the lazily flowing River Severn.

You're off to Shrewsbury*, a market town whose narrow streets at the heart of town are almost entirely encircled by the River Severn. This bustling market town, with its black and white timber-framed Tudor buildings, was the birthplace of Charles Darwin and will be your home for the next two nights.
*Please note that in rare cases, this trip may stay in Chester instead of Shrewsbury.

D2 Conwy ‣ Snowdonia National Park ‣ Shrewsbury or Chester

Today, your journey will take you to the heart of North Wales.

First, you will explore the majestic might of Conwy and its medieval castle. Built by Edward I in the 13th century, this fortress offers spectacular views from its battlements.

Next, you'll journey through the impressive mountains and valleys of Snowdonia National Park and its slate quarries, and cross the Llanberis Pass in the shadow of Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales. As you cross the border back into England and return to your accommodation, learn about the Welsh struggle for independence and the story of the rebellious Owain Glyndŵr.

*Please note that in rare cases, this trip may stay in Chester instead of Shrewsbury.

D3 (China) Peak District National Park ‣ Buxton ‣ Chatsworth House (Darcy's Estate) ‣ York

Northeast of Shrewsbury lies the Peak District National Park, a rugged moorland of enclosed pastures and wooded valleys. Picturesque villages and unparalleled scenery line your route as you wind through the area's distinctive landscape.

After a scenic drive, you'll arrive at the elegant spa town of Buxton, which has attracted visitors seeking its natural springs since Roman times. Here, you can fill your bottles with the famously clear spring water.

In the afternoon, you will visit Chatsworth, the famous Derbyshire home and gardens of the Duke of Devonshire. Frequently cited as one of Britain's finest country houses, this renowned building boasts a vast collection of furniture, priceless paintings, and neoclassical sculptures.

Traveling north, you'll pass through some of northern England's old industrial heartlands, arriving at the historic walled city of York, where you'll spend the next two nights.

D4 York ‣ Yorkshire Dales ‣ York

Today, there are two options. You can choose to spend the day exploring York's medieval center, an ancient city with a rich and colorful history dating back to the Romans, Vikings, and Normans.

Alternatively, you can take a half-day guided tour through the Yorkshire Dales to the beautiful market town of Knaresborough. Here, you can experience the famous Yorkshire hospitality before heading to some of the more remote areas and the impressive scenery of the East Riding.

Whichever way you choose, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of York in the evening.

D5 York ‣ Cambridge ‣ London

In the morning, depart from the beautiful city of York and begin your journey south towards London.

You will be staying in Lincoln, a town famed for its beautiful historic centre and delicious Lincolnshire sausages. While you're there, be sure to visit the Cathedral; for approximately 200 years, it was the tallest building in the world.

Leaving Lincoln, you continue south to Cambridge. The iconic King's College Chapel is located in the city centre. Take a guided punt along the River Cam, or climb the steps of Great St Mary's Church for skyline views before returning to London.
