Attraction Introduction
Johnston Canyon, located in Banff National Park along the Bow Valley Parkway, connects the town of Banff and Lake Louise. Formed by thousands of years of river erosion, the canyon features deep and rugged terrain with streams and multiple waterfalls. In summer, the water rushes, vegetation is lush, and the air is fresh. In winter, it's covered in ice and snow, with sparkling frost on the trees. Each season offers unique charm, making it one of the most popular hiking trails in the Banff area.
Travel Tips
• Entry requires a valid Banff National Park admission ticket or an annual pass.
• The round trip to Lower Falls takes approximately 1 hour, and to Upper Falls approximately 2 hours. We recommend allocating ample time.
• Some sections of the trail can be slippery; anti-slip athletic footwear is recommended.
• Parking is limited during peak season (July–August), so we recommend starting early or taking public transportation.
