Visit the heart of this still-in-use palace—the State Apartments. Frequently used for ceremonies and official events, the interiors are decorated with some of the finest artworks from the royal collection. Try to spot the paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, and Leonardo da Vinci hanging on the walls! During the winter, the ornately decorated Semi-State Apartments are also open to the public.

Queen Mary's Dollhouse is exquisitely detailed, even featuring working lights, flowing water, and a small garden—a perfect microcosm of aristocratic life. The Dollhouse's library even houses original works by famous authors of the time!

St George's Chapel

This magnificent Gothic building is the final resting place of many British monarchs, including Edward IV (who built the chapel), Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Regular worship services are held here, and this tranquil chapel adds a touch of serenity to a visit to Windsor Castle.

Changing of the Guard

The ceremony is intended to mark the changing of the guard between two groups of guards. The privilege of protecting the monarch traditionally belongs to the Royal Guard, commonly known as the "Guards," who have performed this duty since 1660. Weather permitting, castle visitors can usually witness the ceremony on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. On Thursdays and Saturdays, the guards arrive at the castle before 11:00 AM. They march in procession through Windsor town into the castle, where the changing of the guard takes place. On Mondays and Fridays, the ceremony takes place only inside the castle and begins before 3:00 PM.

  • Tickets cannot be exchanged for a one-year pass.
  • Please strictly adhere to your reserved time slot when entering the attraction. For example, if your reservation is for 10:00, please enter between 10:00 and 10:30. If you are unable to enter within this timeframe, the attraction may refuse you entry in order to limit the number of visitors.
  • As a royal palace still in use, the castle is frequently used by the king for state ceremonies and official receptions, and therefore may be temporarily closed.
